This is the Milwaukee premiere of Stride & Ragtime.
Renowned pianist and composer Aaron Diehl transforms the piano into an orchestral vessel in the spirit of his beloved predecessors; Ahmad Jamal, Erroll Garner and Jelly Roll Morton. In his Stride & Ragtime program, he channels and honors the giants and pioneers of early American African-American jazz – Scott Joplin, Fats Waller, Eubie Blake, James P. Johnson, and others.
Aaron Diehl has performed as soloist and leader on the world’s greatest stages; Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Walt Disney Hall, London’s Barbican Centre, and the Philharmonie de Paris. His jazz festival stops include Newport, Monterey, and Detroit and his orchestral appearances include the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston and Milwaukee Symphonies among many others.
