Nova Linea Contemporary Dance Presents Lineage

  • Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts 3270 Mitchell Park Drive Brookfield, WI 53045 (map)

For Nova Linea's inaugural performance, Artistic Director Jared Baker explores themes on what shapes Nova Linea to its core. The words "Nova Linea" (New Line) stem from the concept of lineage, and how each of us can leave our own legacy. This legacy can be simultaneously influenced by our past, our present, and even our future. In the first half, Baker has chosen three unique pieces of repertoire that represent strong influences into the artistic vision of Nova Linea. To open, the company will recreate "Flight" (2018), a piece first choreographed by Baker during his time at graduate school. To follow, Amy Ernst, former Assistant Professor of Dane at the University of Arizona and dancer in the Lewitzky Dance Company, will re-stage an excerpt of one of her audience favorites, "Songs of Sanctuary.” Lastly, guest choreographer Chelsea Thedinga will create a brand new work, directly on the dancers of the company. Together, these pieces reflect the history and future vision of Nova Linea.

After intermission, Jared Baker will premier his first new work on the company, titled "Lineage.” As Baker comes near the end of his performance career and transitions into solely directing, he reflects on how he can continue his legacy on through others, just like his mentors continued theirs through him. he states, "Who we are is influenced by generations of people before us whether we have met them or not. On the other side, we can never fully comprehend how our own lives and actions can inspire others we will never meet.”
